I went into retreat again in 2005, this time for three months, at my home in Wuji Jidi. There was much more material then; He allowed me to record it, because He didn't allow recording the first time, so I relied on notes. I recorded a lot during those three months, so several of my books now, such as *Transforming Mindset* and *Universal Harmony*, are compilations of what I learned during my retreat. Our exercises, too, were taught during retreats.
But to be honest, Yuanfu has only really been making its way into the public eye in the last two or three years. Although we've been around for over a decade, we've mostly been doing things intangible. So how do you do things intangibly? You need to achieve stillness and tranquility, and they will give you a lot of information. Then, you need to have the ability to perform it before it manifests, because it requires human effort, but the divine helps invisibly. So, the divine cannot do things for us humans; we have to do them ourselves. But they will help you, using their spiritual power and wisdom to propel you forward.
Why don't the gods, who are so powerful, do it themselves? Because there are human laws and a cycle of karma in the human world. If the gods did it, they would be breaking heavenly rules and committing sins, and they would be punished. Therefore, it is up to us humans to do it. If humans do it with righteous hearts and minds, they will be helped and will mostly prosper.
But if you don't act with a pure heart and righteous thoughts, things will eventually go wrong. Like now, there are so many temples; we say it's because spirits are causing trouble. We humans are more spiritual and rational, born to manage the earth. When humans do things, we actually cooperate and interact with them in many ways, with them helping us. We say it's a system of co-governance between humans and gods, right?
Of course, you say we humans are human, but in reality, we humans are also gods. Humans have both tangible and intangible aspects. The human body is tangible, while our speech, thoughts, and even longing are intangible. I often say that being human is best, even better than being a god. Gods have spirits but no bodies, while we humans have both spirits and bodies, isn't that better? Humans have a physical body that separates us; you can choose whether to cultivate or not, you can even deceive me, and humans have a secret to enjoy. But our spiritual friends know every thought and action, making cultivation and growth much slower.
Why do so many spirits choose to cultivate in the mortal realm? Because cultivation is easier there; the world is diverse, full of love and affection, and more colorful. They like that aspect. Actually, being human is the best. You can be greedy or not, you can lie or not, and you can do whatever you want. You can cultivate to your desired level, focusing your mind on achieving that level.
Because our approach to cultivating blessings differs from that of religions. Christianity speaks of heaven and hell, Buddhism of the Western Paradise, and Taoism of a broader and more expansive realm. Each religion has its strengths and weaknesses, but our approach to cultivating blessings is not tied to religion, but rather to our own spirituality. You come here to first live for yourself, and then cultivate virtue.
Another significant purpose of humankind is to pass on our heritage! Right? If you don't pass on your heritage, it means you haven't fulfilled your function, and this is also part of being human. Taking care of your own small circle or community, contributing what you've learned, and protecting the earth are all for the sake of future generations. All living things survive on this earth, so marriage and personal love are essential acts of human inheritance that must be performed.
If you don't want to do anything or get married, that's fine too. Then go out and do great love, help others. Actually, doing great love is more tiring because you have to help even more people. It seems that more of the next generation are getting married late or not at all these days. For the sake of the sustainability of the earth, I hope everyone will try their best to persuade the next generation to get married.
What is most important in our lives? People generally say health, wealth, and freedom—these are things everyone desires. But in our Yuanfu (圆福) philosophy, there are also five treasures, which we believe are the most precious gains from this life. Today, I'd like to take this opportunity to briefly discuss them. Yuanfu emphasizes cultivating these five treasures: body, mind, energy, and spirit—in other words, health, freedom, longevity, enlightenment, and returning to one's source. From physical health to the ultimate spiritual return, there must be a place to return to. Only then does being born as a human being have a true purpose. Who knows where you will return to? Where will you return to? What qualifications do you have to go to your desired destination?
True cultivation begins with physical health. We often say that health requires: unobstructed meridians and a peaceful mind and body. What are meridians? What do they control? They control all the nerves in our body. Only when they are unobstructed will your body be healthy. As for a peaceful mind and body, the body belongs to our organic body. The body must be healthy. And what is the mind? It refers to psychology and thoughts, right? They must be correct, able to transform, and free from negative thoughts and negative energy. Only then will you be healthy.
But that alone isn't enough for good health. Why? Because we humans possess spiritual energy, and our spirits interact within us. If we have too much negative energy in our bodies, we won't achieve physical health. It's not just about us humans; your interactions with unseen spiritual beings can sometimes infiltrate your body, causing physical and mental unhealthiness and making your thoughts unstable. This unseen spiritual energy is also very important.
Eating well and exercising well doesn't guarantee good health. You also need to pay attention to the external spiritual realm, which can affect your body. We talk about being possessed, cursed, or afflicted by evil spirits. That's why we practice Yuanfu Gong – it's to expel impurities and retain purity, preserving good energy and vital energy within the body. Only then can we achieve physical and mental well-being.
And what about being at ease? Being at ease with whatever comes means cultivating good relationships, accepting what comes, and understanding others with kindness. This requires respect and mutual love to transform negative energy fields before one can be at ease. Let's talk about longevity. Does being healthy and at ease generally lead to longevity? People used to say that my age at birth was predetermined. Is that really how it should be?
No, you can create your own lifespan. Yes, you can create your destiny. While fate is predetermined, destiny can be influenced by your actions, whether you accumulate or lose virtue, and by your good intentions and thoughts. Longevity should be lived with dignity and purpose. It shouldn't be about lying in bed, unconscious, and being sick. Only then does longevity have meaning.
Those who live long lives must be able to regulate their energy; inner observation of qi is essential for longevity. Therefore, our cultivation involves practicing qi and exercises. Of course, everyone's cultivation is different. Generally, it focuses on the body, mind, and spirit, but in Yuanfu, we also emphasize qi, enlightenment, and returning to the source. Where does enlightenment come from, and where does returning to the source lead?
When people live to a long age, they can no longer do a lot of physical labor. Instead, they should have more time to think about things. Sexuality arises from the heart. As the heart comes to understand and comprehend many things in society and comprehend many principles, the heart will become calm and still, and sexuality can then emerge.
Buddhism speaks of wisdom, the various experiences and lessons you've learned in life that you can pass on to future generations. You can organize and record them; this is your achievement and your merit—you are passing on wisdom. Our understanding is basically guided by this principle. So, how do we illuminate our inner selves, making them clear, understand, and know? That's how we achieve enlightenment.
The same applies to people. Taiwan used to have only six million people, now it has twenty-three million, and the global population is also growing. The so-called "space" refers to Earth, Mars, and every other dimension; Earth is just one of them. In fact, every dimension has life, including Mars. This is our perspective from a metaphysical standpoint, different from the arguments of scientists. Metaphysics uses spiritual power to sense and be moved, so some aspects may differ.
Just as science and medicine cannot cure certain diseases, sometimes metaphysics can reveal methods that can help cure them. This is quite different, and sometimes even contradictory, but both are effective and ultimately aim to help people. Metaphysics cannot be separated from spiritual power and energy, and energy cannot be separated from the invisible world of humans.
In reality, those invisibly able to help others are quick because they see things clearly. However, it depends on whether we possess the necessary virtue. Those with virtue will help quickly, while those without will not only refuse to help but may even bring about our downfall just as quickly. We see many entrepreneurs who have lost everything overnight, which is quite frightening. This is because they did not accumulate virtue in their daily lives. If you truly act with righteous thoughts and intentions, it will be different; you will rise in status.
Accumulating virtue means having good thoughts in your daily life and helping others whenever you have the opportunity. The money you earn is given to you by others. People say that what you take from society should be used for society. In Yuanfu, we mean that service and spiritual practice are intertwined in daily life. Serving others is like practicing spirituality; it is a transformation of your mindset.
Finally, we talk about returning to the source, returning to our original place. The spirit returns to our space, depending on which level you have cultivated. And each space will also follow the law of grouping things according to their kind. You will be grouped into the space of the level you have reached.
Okay, that concludes our philosophy of Yuanfu, and we've provided the five essential items for Yuanfu to offer you more options. Thank you everyone, and may you enjoy complete happiness!
